BLAST stands for Basic Local Alignment Tool and it is one of the most popular tools created by NCBI. It helps people in the field visually find regions of similarity in genetic sequences. A new homepage is being developed. I was tasked with the design. The page is still in development.
Click on the button below to see the current home page. The team wanted to give more visual weight to the features that are more popular among users. Web analytics were used to determine the features that should receive preference. Lower on the page, users can find other useful tools. The design tries to be as clean as possible to target the user's attention on what they are looking for with minimal reading and searching. As with all new NCBI designs, the U.S. web design standards and accesibility are important factors.
